I have a customer that has two buildings tied to one system. Customer wants to add some more analog ports to the system.

Spec on the system:
ksu 0x32 ics-nntm0408idw

program module nntm040biwz7 nt7b72fg93 rel 04
mfg 980123 na-mics-2.0 v5.01

vmail nt5874rf-93 r0681493 rel 02 012398 3.0 mod 2ms41r35190785

6 port fiber module. all ports used. One goes to the vmail. three go to 5 analog modules ntbb51cb-93 moxam analog, rel 02e mics asm with vmwi na. There are two sets of moxam that are fibered together to make a 16 port module. One goes to a m12xdo ntbb20fb-93, nntm8455 jxjd 2000-11-98. One goes to a mox16 ntbb41fb-93 970504 04007 89547.

Customer wants to add some more analog ports. Is it possible or desireable to piggy back onto the single analog module left, moxam, that doesn't have a second 8 port module attached to it?

There is no back up of the system at all. The customer was picked up because the old vendor didn't want to do it anymore. I need to know if the customer is expandable. If it is possible to get a backup of the system, either by someone on the board or another place. I don't like the idea of not having a backup.

I could use some help on determining if the job is worth it or if the job should be walked away from.

The customer has been told and pitched a new system for the last 5 years. Doesn't like the price and he paid $xxx for the system and it should still be good. Regardless that the system is going on 12 years old.

If arrangements need to be made for consulting fees, I talk with the owner on it. I just want to be sure that if the job is taken, there is nothing that will come back and bite me.

If you need to talk to be privately, pm me with a phone # to talk.

The job would help out fill in on the slow times.

Thanks for the replies and help.

Mike

What is maxom? cant google that word.

Analog Station modules are 8 porst each, you can plug 2 of them (dasiy chain) per every single port on the expansion card.

So if you have 5 then yes you can fit one more 8 port analog module by pluging the fiber cord into the lats one added.

As for backup your need:
RAD - Remote Access Device
NRU - Norstar Remote Utilities software
Laptop or do remote via PC.

Depending how these buildings are linked you can also get MCK fiber extendars and put a 0X16 at remote building so they can use digital sets.

You can also add another 6 port expansion card in the 2nd slot.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I wrote down as being on the modules. They were the 8 port analog units.

I have a rad unit on site. But I don't have the software and knowledge to back up the system.

There is room to add another Fiber module. But is it worth it with a system that old. The main point, without a good backup, I don't want to monkey with the system.

I also haven't gotten to deep into the nortel system for system upgrades and I need some help with it.

If anyone can help to work with me on this customer, arrangements could be made for your time and effort.

Thanks

Mike

Mike, with all due respect, what will come back and bite you is your lack of knowledge of Norstar. It is unfair to your customer to pose as a Norstar tech.

This system is viable, upgradeable and expandable. Pass it on or sub it to someone who knows what they are doing and who is not afraid to get their hands dirty on it.
