up here in quebec we have tongue troopers AKA the Office de la Protection de la Langue Francaise (the office for the protection of the french language) and one of my customers had a complaint filed. They are running a BCM. Now when i do F*502 i have no problems the phones go french, as well as programming of the system. The problem arises with the voice mail (my experience has been with NAM's so i dont want to do anything wrong) when a user enters his mailbox they prompts are still in english. Is there anything short of defaulting the voice mail that can be done to make it french?

this is a new customer that is no longer in contact with the initial installer. Any ideas would be greatly apreciated.

Jay, if it's just a user's mailbox, just change the class of service. If the prime language of the VM is English, and the COS is 1, then the prime for the user's MB would be English. Change to 2 for French. Or reverse that as the case may be.

Also make sure that their outgoing messages are recorded properly for "Prime" & "Secondary" messages. They might have simply reversed those, OR didn't set it up properly.

My winter golfing crew is Canadian and one is a retired RCMP. Heard many stories about the languages!

You know what the OLF can do to themselves....

I always set them up according to their in-bound calling base. If the vast majority of the callers are English, then that's the way I set it up.

Have a look at their "Company Greeting". It should be simple such as: "Bienvenue au Municipalité de X, Welcome to the Municipality of X...to continue in English, please press 9" OR the reverse if most of the inbound callers are English. The rest of the info belongs in the AA or CCR such as hours, options, etc.

If the OLF doesn't like that, they can suck an egg for all I care. According to the law, French has to be larger, or predominant. Whether you're English or French, whatever is said, read, or heard first makes it predominant...therefore legal.

the OLF has its place, when a person rips you off, if the bill has any english on it, report report report, always funny to see a unilignual franco get a fine for english!

OK, let's get back on topic & off the OLF. Did any of the answers help you Jay? The original email that you sent me was referring to the language when you are PROGRAMMING it, not individual MB's.
