I've recently upgraded a BCM400 3.7 system to 4.0 and installed the latest system SU system 27 and desktop SU16 client patches. After installing the new clients on the desktops, it seems the unified messaging client is disabling the windows sound device. The only way to fix is to go into Windows device manager and uninstall and reinstall the sound driver. Removing CallPiot desktop messaging and removing the Nortel call pilot folders has no effect. I cannot even perform a system restore to the machine to a date before the upgrade without the sound driver failing upon reboot. I should also mention this happening on multiple desktops with a variety of sound cards. It almost like the new client has a file that's corruptting the sound driver. When I install an older version of the client on a mchine that hasn't been upgraded, everything works fine. Has anyone experienced this issue and can you point me to a permanent fix. Everything was working correctly before the upgrade.
Thanks in Advance

i'm still in the middle of this problem with resolution on the horizon. I'm certain it's a software conflict issue but the big problem is I can un-install the Nortel software to the point where it clears up the problem. Let's assume it's a Nortel problem, do you think if I call Nortel support (without a support contract) that I can expect them to help me fix the issue or at least tell me what I need to do to remove the software without them charging me the $300/hour T&M fee. Or does anyone know another vendor I can use that may be able to help me for a smaller fee.

Getting Nortel to admit that their software is causing an issue with different sound cards will be a great undertaking.
Getting Nortel to assist you without a contract and for free will be almost impossible.
