Having grief trying to give a customer some answer service on their BCM200. When I do Feature 981 it comes back as INVALID FEATURE. Does this mean it has no voicemail?
Also, just as a final solution I was thinking of installing a basic answer machine via ATA on a digital port but am having problems getting dial tone with a perfectly good ATA2.
Are Norstar modular ATA2s compatible with BCM 50 200 or 400 systems?

Does Feature 985 give the same prompt? On the front of the unit - toward the left - there are approx 10 led's. Are the lights on? flashing? which ones? Sounds like the system did not come up. ( your phones can still work ).
I assume you have re-booted the system? if not try that.
As far as I know, the ATA2 should be compatible. Did you give a few min after you plugged it in before testing? Give about 5-10 min.

Yes, Feature 985, 983 etc all give the same INVALID response. I have not rebooted as I am a bit scared of it to be honest! But maybe I should be brave and try that next time. No, I only gave the ATA 1 minute as it worked instantly on the Norstar Modular. I will give it longer next try.
Thanks so much for your help. How's Ohio? It's bright and sunny one minute and thunder and lightning storms the next in central London.

Are those LED's flashing? That is a problem. If that is an older system, they sometimes have trouble staying UP. Lights start flashing. You may need to PATCH it up to date. It could be a bad tray, or bad disk.
It has been very warm for a while, then this last week it was cooler. Today it wants to give a one last hot day, about 90. Then back to the mid 70's the rest of the week. I don't like the rain unless it is at night.

Thanks a lot NTLayoff- I am going to check those LEDs next visit. It is an older system for sure.

Depending on how old the system is, you may want to check out the system tray. Hopefully you know how to pull the tray out. When you pull the tray out, check the Bigger size capacitors. If they are Green-those are bad. If they are Blue-those are good.

I believe for your ata you need to plug in a regular telephone(7310,7316...) and program the type of prime line you want on the phone(intercom, line...) and then plug in the ata.
this may help

No need...you can program a port from any phone.
ATA - Prime Line to Intercom Then Hotline to External with 1 Pause (F78) If Centrex etc add 9P
For voice mail issues try restarting the service before you reboot the BCM.
