Hello all,

Was curious if anyone had any input on scenario we've run into. We have a customer who had us move their Nortel Compact ICS about 6months ago. It was a simple move, everything appeared to be working fine. However, the customer has called and said that one of the phones in particular is acting strange. Whenever you attempt to dial anything from this phone (x28) it will only ring to another extension (x26). we are a good distance away from this customer, and would like to help them out with this. We are not a nortel certified dealer, but this issue sounds like it could be an issue with the extension on the cabinet. The customer stated that they swapped phones out and the issue seemed to clear up for a few minutes, then started acting up again shortly after. Im curious if anyone knows if there is a logical reason, or programming feature that may be causing this. I'm leaning towards a bad port at this point, and will likely see if it can be moved to a spare extension on the phone system.

any thoughts?

thanks for your input!

If you hadn't changed phones, I'd say it's simply a stuck intercom button.

That being said, did they change them BACK after a "few minutes", then it re-occurred? If so, it's the phone, which I still think it is.

I agree with Dave - Stuck button on the phone.

He tried using the original phone on x26 at another location and said the phone works fine. But I'm not sure if he moved it back to port 26. I'll have him try that and see if this changes anything at all.

thanks!

When you move a phone, just the vibrations of setting it down on the desk can un-stick a button. So it would work fine at the new location.

Hit Feature * 0 then start pushing all the buttons and see if one sticks. Push them all on the right side, then all on the left side, then all in the middle. If it sticks then any button after that one will show the same info in the display.

go on site and troubleshoot yourself rather than having the customer and online posters do it for you .

you ought to be knowledgeable enough to see whats actually happening when your troubleshooting hands on

Take along a spare phone, if you have one. Someone may have slopped a little sticky liquid on the phone and a complete, thorough, cleaning will take an hour or so, esp if you've never done it before!

Hello all, thanks for the input. Customer said he found that the button template was sticking one of the buttons, and is working now.

Skip555, this customer is 1.5 to 2hour drive from our location. Just trying to save him a service call charge for something that can be fixed easily.
