You Guys are very knowledgeable and I need to pick your brain. I am installing a Nortel cics for practice. The wiring is confusing.

1) What are ports?

2) On the manual I saw pin 26 then below Pin 1. This is confusing.

Can someone please explain the wiring install in a simpler form. Thanks

Port: Where things go in or out.

Each phone connects to a port where the voice goes in(listen) or out(talk).
You only have 16 main ports. Voice mail also connects to these ports.

Since it is apparent that you are not a phone technician just pay attention to the wire colors.
Blue & white/blue are your first port and connect to the first phone.

Good luck.

One question: practicing for what?

Pins 1 and 26 is referring to the Ampenol plug in the Key System Unit. 1= tip side/whiteblue and 26= ring side/bluewhite and that is pair one.

Thanks for all your help so far.

OK let use this print out of a 66 block

row 1 A1 B1 C1 D1

row 2 A2 B2 C2 D2

row 3 A3 B3 C3 D3

row 4 A4 B4 C4 D4

Moving down vertically, D1 to D2 would be considered the 1st pair (ie White/Blue - Blue white) correct ?

On the left side, A1 to A2 would be the matching colors for the Cat 3 cable, that's coming from the jack?

What color would A3-A4 be? would this also be blue. The Blue pair coming from the Jacks?
