Looking for a home phone system, and trying to choose between the above. The number of extensions is not a problem. Other than that, why pick one over the other? Is the newer 824 more advanced, or do the digital features of the 816 win out? Please help me to decide which Panasonic system to purchase.

my understanding was that the 816 is a very old system. i went with the taw848 instead and am very pleased. the wireless capability, while i didn't care about it at first, is great.

TA or TAW or TDA50 are best for homes.

Go with the KXTA either 824 or 848 --- the KXTD 816 is just that 8X16 and doesn't have the auto slp ports --- they have to special wired at the backboard. The 824 you can use the 77xx sets, unplug them and plug in a slp and it automatically knows it and functions accordingly.

Plus the 824 is the latest and has a lot of similar features of the big boys.

My .02 and no soap box. wink

KXTD 816 is a lil more than 8x16. You can actually have 16 digital ports and 16 analog ports giving you 32 extensions. While the TA series can not give you that. Keep in mind the 816 is/has been discontinued, so if you ever need parts they will be refurbished. There is a couple of things going digital will give you over the TA but in a home setting, I'm sure that wouldn't matter.
