I'm getting ready to install a new 4 port TVA50 voicemail on an existing 816 system. problem is that there are no spare extension ports and the new station board is on back order. (Seems Panasonic likes to keep a tight inventory, JIT manufacturing I suppose). Can I use the XDP on 2 phones to interface with the voicemail ports? are there any restrictions that I should be aware of?
thanks in advance
TJ

Using the XDP extensions will only give you analog station ports. It's kind of a waste since many of the voice mail system's features can't be used via analog ports.

On the TD816 you only need 2 ports to get all four voicemail ports using DPITS.
Turn the CPC on in the TD816, program 415 for outgoing. The default is "disable" on all CO lines.

yeah, i knew that there was some kind of limitation using the XDP ports. customer has agreed to let me install using one spare extension until the station board comes in. I am assuming though that the new TDA units which have the digital XDP should be able to support the DPITS for these types of applications.

i went to install the TVA50 and of course the port issue became a non-factor. i found my customer's definition of 16 ports includes a couple of extensions starting with 2XX.
so that issue is resolved.
this is an older TD-1232, i did identify it but of course now I can't find my paperwork with the software level. I am having a problem saving
my changes on the 1232. it gives me a parameter error when I try to apply the changes.
panasonic tech support tells me that the issue is with the programming tool. they suggested the following:
You can blank the areas in question, use an older tool, or save that one change from the phone
Which wasn't really helpful. they didn't mention any place that I can get this older tool. I noticed on their web site they a DOS programming tool for the 1232. will this work or does somebody have a better solution?
My goal is get the system saved and then get it upgraded to a more current software level.

The dos tool is actually better in my opinion.
Use a display set off port 1 and go into programming
and look at field 116.
Post the string and we'll see what version it is.
The only thin you really need in the TD 1232 is field 117. enter the voicemail port or ports.
The rest is in the TVA.

yeah, but I still need to save the data base. i will try the dos tool. and if that doesn't work use fields 116 and 117 to at least get the voicemail interfaced.
thanks for the feedback

if using the dos tool with XP, try going to the icon, right click and select the compatability tab and select Win 98.

The Windows version of the programmer will only go down to version 3 if I remember. The DOS tool will program to the first version.
