I have a KX-TA824 and 700# was pressed. Ever since then the message waiting light has not worked. I have checked the settings in the voice mail options and the light is enabled. Only the phones that had 700# pressed do not light up. I have also tried 79# on one of the phones and it did not fix the problem. All that happens when I do this is disable that extension from voice mail.

The 700# shouldn't have any bearing on the voicemail lighting the MWL.
You actually left a message and it wouldn't light?
Try taking one of the extensions where the 700# was pressed off hook.
call it from another extension and at the busy signal press the message button and see if it lights the MWL.
You may also try entering 702 and the extension number of a set that is not working then #.
A simple reset of the system may help also.

Thanks that helped, now we are having a problem with the dnd button on ext. 101. Everything is working fine on the phone but the light will not stop blinking. When we deactivate the dnd on ext.101 that ext. is cancled out of the voice mail system, but the light does turn off. The only way for the phone to work right is to keep that light blinking. How can I make the phone work as normal without the light blinking.

Does the ext ring with the light off?
It sounds like the ext is forwarded somewhere. Dial 710# to cancel it.
The FWD/DND button is on solid when the ext is in Do Not Disturb and it blinks when the ext is forwarded.
It's been a long time for me on this system so I'm not sure about this one.

what do you mean by 'cancelled out of the voice mail"?? A call from auto attendant or call from another phone? You are turning off and on call fwd, not DND.What do you perceive as th phone "working right"??

all calls transfered to voicemail should
be disabled in that ext's mailbox that will stop the MW light from being lit from voicemail
all ext's should be forward busy/no answer to
xxx (voicemail ext)as far as a blinking fwd/dnd light that is normal and must remain blinking
if you want your voicemail to pickup
properly !!
