I'm new. My company is new with respect to phone systems. I need a sales strategy and would like to learn from your experiences as to what works.

Referrals & word of mouth is not an option yet, as there is no installed base. So, I suppose I will be cold-calling in person & on the phone. I may 'warm' them up first with a mailer - then follow up with a sales call.

I appreciate your input on effective sales/marketing tips & techniques.

Welcome to the forum.
With no base your only options are Advertise, Advertise and Advertise, you can cold call but to tell you the truth it never worked for me.

Find a local BNI group and join. Try to partner with a local dialtone provider.

Cold calling is not easy but is can be effective if done rite.

As an admin of a large compnay. I get cold calls all the time. I always hang up...

Cold calling is worthless as are the mailers.
Get some leg work in. Go talk to people. Bring a flyer and card with you. It takes time and effort, but it might actually bring some results as opposed to the other two.
By the way, talk to the receptionists, not the bosses. Find out what they use now and what they like and do not like about it. They are your in. Get the person who uses the phone the most on your side.

Paul, do you purchase and use the marketing materials offered by the vendor, or, would you suggest customizing & printing off a nice color copy from a quality laser printer?

Check out your local Chamber of Commerce. Most have trade shows and after hours mixers that you can sponser. Network, network, and network again. You need to get your name in front of as many people as possible. BNI is also a good tool.

Create a good website that is search engine optimized. I am getting more and more customers that using search engines instead of the yellow pages. I just moved a system this week for a customer that did a google serch and found an article about us on another customers site.

News paper adds are not very good unless you are selling retail.
