I'm getting conflicting information about calls to the Bahamas. A number there would be 809 xxx-xxxx. I'm told that this is not an international call by one party and that is it by another.

Richard. I always deny 809 in my ARS and many of the other islands in that area. Unless someone can provide me with a valid reason they need to call there, I deny it.

This web sight may help.

Here is a list of the most common ARS enteries that are denied.

I also deny any international location that we don't do business in.

Why 010 ?

I'm aware of the 10xxxx carrier codes and 0+ dialing so they all make sense, but this seems to be an alternate carrier call with operator assistance. Either that or an international call with operator assistance -- 01 + country code -- to a country code beginning with a zero.

You are correct, I am dening access to an international operator.

Sorry, I'm still not quite getting this one.

011 44..... would be a normal IDDD station-to-station call to the U.K.

01 44..... would be the same call but with operator intervention for person-to-person, collect, etc.

But surely 011 0..... and 01 0..... would be invalid anyway, since there are no country codes beginning with zero?

Or does 010 (without any following digits) simply dump you to the international operator position?

Ok, let me jump in here. We always denied 9010 in motels, it usually confused the C.O. and got you an operator. If she didn't pay attention to the CID, or didn't understand the implications, or just plain didn't care, she'd 'redial' the number for the caller. Wouldn't show up on room call log, but sure did show up on monthly motel LD bill! Oops, 'she' could just as easily be 'he', PC doncha know! smile John C.
