Here is the situation: 3 CO lines, 3rd line is for fax, credit card machine, but is also the rollover line for the main #.

Have turned on Fax detection and it picks ups on 4th ring regardless if it is an fax call or not.

Here is what I need it to do:

Determine if it is a fax call without ringing all lines, If it is then send to fax ext.
If not a fax call, then I need it ring all extensions.
Here is where it gets pretty funky, since this is a rollover line, if it isn't answered by 4 rings, it goes to phone co. provided Voice Mail.

Any Suggestions?

Best solution is to get a fax line share device and stick ahead of the system. There are many models out there to choose from. You can configure them to pick up on the 1st ring, most just take one full ring cycle to detect the fax before transferring the call.

Gremlin, you have 3 options:
1: Remove that line from the LEC rollover.
dedicate it to the fax through the TA824 and still have it available for outgoing calls only when needed.
2: Get a line sharing device as BenB stated above
however you will probably loose the LEC voicemail as it answers on the 1st ring and routes the call accordingly. (with this option you could always put an answering maching on site just for this line on an extension that would ring only from the voce call side of the line sharing device).
3: Eliminate the LEC voicemail altogether, save money and invest in a TA50 which will handle the voicemail and auto fax detection.

The only way the the fax detection will work on the 824 is with a disa card and the line 3 set to answer by the disa and it will detect the clg tone and sent it to the assigned fax extension of if no tone it will send it to the assigned extension group. only problem is call is answered and will not go to voicemail
As benb and mr G said you could put a answering machine locally on system or to VM 50.
Any solution with fax auto-detect will have to answer the line first.

I had several companies in my base that had the same problem. My solution was TheStick. It is a fax switch and works flawlessly. No problems since and it is easy to install. :toast:
