Wow jmac it must be true. What year is this anyway?
Panasonic made two brands of phone systems from two different factories. KME and Matshusta come to mind. Along about 2004 they decided to abandon the VB product line and offered to let the DBS dealers become KXT dealers.
That's the story as I remember it.

DBS is discontinued, but there are still a pot load of TD dealers and the TDA is roughly 4 years old and on it's 4th(?) software upgrade. It's a pretty flexible system and $$ is pretty reasonable. If I had to guess, I'd say P'sonic finally realized how stupid it was to support 2 completely incompatible lines that pretty much competed for the same market. Guess I should be tickled that I went to work for a TD dealer, rather than a DBS dealer! I imagine an awful lot of DBS dealers made the jump to TD. This may sound prideful, but I work for the 3rd largest P'sonic dealer in the country! Like I said, I'm pretty tickled! John C.

The KX-T product lines are (were) offered for sale through Graybar and many other wholesalers. The DBS was purchased directly from Panasonic.

The VA series, yes a very solid system. I still have a couple of em working that i had to install over 20 years ago.
I must admit that talking to panasonic was like talking to a brick wall(Tech support).
