Oh, I do remember that Criterion. They were very popular for residences since the phones were so small. The only complaint we ever got was that in order for all of the phones to ring, the system had to be placed in the night mode, causing the light to flash at the top of the phone. We just stuck a paper dot sticker over the LED!

Not to change the subject, but, to change the subject. SNC, my boss says the TDA is neither being dropped or replaced. The TDE is just fully IP ready, he's going to the 'unveiling' later this month. Back to 'old folks week', was the Criterion the one that the base was maybe twice as wide as the handset and maybe 2 inches longer. Kinda tan in color, and any system size you wanted, as long as it was 3 X 8. And who remembers the Code-A-Phone 516. Yep, the same folks that made that 35 pound answering machine the telcos forced on people back before CPE was considered legitimate. They bought a system lock, stock, and barrel and put it out through their dealers. They were beginning to feel Phone Mate and several other answering machine companies nipping at their heels and decided to get into the telephone system business. Only 1 thing wrong with the system. Horrible crosstalk, if you installed the optional speakerphone board in the KSU. It gave speakerphone capability to all phones in the system. And that was their 'hook'. Cheaper than the TIE 516, ITT701, and anybody else, WITH all phones speakerphones. (No extra charge for the crosstalk!) Unfortunately, the board had been designed, but never tested before C-A-P bought the system. Yes, I worked for a Code-A-Phone dealer, and no, it wasn't pretty! All the systems were recalled and they never did get the problem fixed! The Criterion reminded me about that, because C-A-P purchased the right to build an electrically compatible 3 X 8 system with cosmetics like the 516 system. Anyhow, that was pretty much the last straw for C-A-P. I think they died completely about 1987. Hmmmm, maybe this should be in the REAL TRIVIA thread! John C. (Not Garand)

The official word is the TDA and TDE will be available concurrently, with the cards being interchangeable. Any other members of this board going to the national dealers meeting in two weeks?
