Local provider is SBC formerly Ameritech.

The tip and ring reversal is a good idea. Something I didn't even consider. If the account wasn't 1.5hrs out of the way, i'd shoot over and do a quick tip and ring reversal.

I did test the voltages out today. I noticed that the 'problem' line had some wierd readings. On ring tone cycle, normal voltage was 49vdc, nonring was ~45vdc. The problem line showed a variance of a 67vdc spike on initial ring tapering to about 45.5vdc then leveling to 45vdc on the nonring.

I will call my client up tomorrow and make the suggestion when he talks to SBC, to consider changing that last circuit item you mentioned.

A Resolution!!!

I found out a little more about the Bell side of the wire path. The copper goes to a fiber hut about a mile down the street from my client. So, no load coils.

After a 2 hour vendor meet with SBC. It's finally working. I spent 2 hours teaching logic to the Bell tech about how the problem is following the wire and not the port. Finally he's getting fed up with me, he begrudgingly said, "I am going to replace a circuit card in the hut down the street. I will put on the order 'Replaced due to suspicion'." Gee, thanks!

To his surprise the phone rang normally on both ends. Voltage readings are now consistant with the other 5 lines. Upon asking him what circuit card he replaced, he just sidestepped the question twice and didn't answer. His response was "These things never have problems. At least not this type of problem."

Thanks gkar. I look like a phone god to my client after telling him this was the problem while on the second trip on site. This is a new client.

A6,

Since it went through fiber they probably had bad card at fiber station. It had improper echo canceling circuits. 90% of the time it is a Teco problem, but there is always that 10%.

Glad to hear it is fixed!
