We have had the Kx-T7600 telephone installed along with a hybrid IP-PBX and ACD Report Server, all panasonic brand. The installers have been working on it for weeks with one problem following another.

One thing that I do not like is that I cannot hear myself in the handset when I am on the telephone. Other telephones in the system work fine but the installer tells me that this telephone on this system using a T1 line will not allow you to hear yourself.

This seems so counterintuitive to me since every time I use this telephone, it seems like it isn't working and I am asking the other party if they can hear me.

Does anybody know if what I am being told is indeed the truth?

Frankly I have a feeling that the guy simply can't figure it out and is turning a flaw into a feature.

Really appreciate any help here.

Thanks
bb

He is telling the truth. It seems on all PRI and T1 circuits that I am installing these days (all on Panasonic TDA systems)there is no sidetone. There is a documented way to turn it on, but I have yet to do so. I've been unsure of other side effects that may arise, and customers do get used to it.

By default the sidetone is off on T-1's. You need to log into the RS232 port and turn it on.

What C5Z said. We discovered this when we put a system in an attorney's (SHUDDER) office. The do a lot of recording of statements and HAD to have good sidetone for the recording device! John C. (Not Garand)

What C5Z said is right. I had used RS232 port and turned side tone off.

There are steps to it and you need Certified Tech to do it.

Just as an aside, I suspect the turned off sidetone is to reduce the distraction from audio echo. I seem to hear a lot of it on T1/PRI equipped systems. And this is not a shot at Panasonic, I think it's due to sloppy programming in the 'cloud' so to speak. Opinions ? And should this comment be moved to the T1/PRI forum. Maybe leaving a copy here as a pointer, sorta. John C. (Not Garand)
