I have a question about the DBS 576 system.. Could someone please PM or respond here..
Question.. 1. I need to run the serial interface for programing and also collect call data with the SMDR port. How can I do both?
I have no local support with this system and would like to find someone that could help me out. Its not my responsiblity to keep this system working..
Thanks. Jim

You should have CN5 and CN6 on the SCC. They can be used for separate printer/modem connections. The ports have to be configured in the programming.

Richard,
I've tried hooking them both up and I believe I have the ports configured correctly, but it hangs the phone system up. What about the switch from cmd/smdr on the SCC card.. Is that only for the one serial port? I'm currently having to switch it back and forth to do due functions..

If you have access to the programming manual on the CD, check out pages 1-80 thru 1-90. It describes how to configure the CN5 and CN6 RS232.
If the changes are simple changes such as names changes, or ringing, just do it thru the set programming. A PC programming interface is nice to have, but it's not required. It's much faster and easier in most cases to just program thru the sets. I can be finished and out the door faster than I can set-up my laptop and wait for it to boot. Another plus is it doesn't interfere with your SMDR settings.
Edit: The programming manual leaves a lot to be desired by Panasonic. The Installation manual states that CN5 is the connection for both SMDR and the PC. So it looks like it's one or the other. If you do not want to interupt the SMDR, wait until after hours to access the programming, or use the sets to program.

Richard,
Thanks for double checking that. Seems lame to have one serial port do both, but guess that's what I get for an old system. I'm going to start using the set to program more often now. Thanks for the help.
