Hello,
New to this forum...not a professional tech guy..would appreciate any advice.
I have an older Panasonic DBS 616 system. Yes, I read the manual(to me it's difficult to understand).
I have 8 different phone stations in the office (8 phones) connected to the base DBS 616 Unit. Only 3 stations permit the connected phones to ring. I replaced the phone on a nonringing phone station with a phone that does ring on another, but the line still does not ring. It is not a problem with the phone itself (I know how to quite an individual phone), but rather the line to the phone station that somehow is programmed not to ring and must be controlled by the MAIN DBS 616 unit that is in the closet. I have no idea how to un-program the main unit to allow these 3 individual phone lines/stations to ring.
Please advise.
With great appreciation,
Adam

You are correct in that it's within the programming of the system.

If you have the installer manual, you should be able to program what you want. If not I suggest you either get one from the "Manuals" link above or better yet, call in an installer in your area. Shouldn't cost very much for this system change.

Thank you you for your reply. I do indeed have the installer manual, but I really don't understand it. I am an extremely avid computer user and website programmer(as a strong hobby), but I don't understand the manual. Do you have any suggestions as to how to explain in more plain language how to turn the Ringer Function 'ON' on the 3 of my 10 lines that are not working?
Thanks again!

Sorry, I deal with Nortel, Not Panasonic. If you can't understand the manual, call in a Pro. he could also give you some training. Small amount of money for knowledge.

Good idea...forgive me for asking the next obvious question. Where do I find a Panasonic Technician to help me with this? Is there some database listing all techs in my Manhattan area. I do not know who the person who installed my unit many many years ago.

The SDBS 616 is what you have, and yes, the manual can be quite confusing. It has been couple of years since I have even seen one, much less worked on one. In technology terms, it's ancient. But hey if it still works, why not fix it.

I can help you if you are interested. But not in the open public forum. Dave's advice is good advice too. You may find someone local to solve the issue for you. If so, be sure to specify the system is an SDBS, not a DBS. They are based off of completely different programming platforms. There are no similarities between the two.

My contact info is on my website linked below if you are interested. There may or may not be a small fee, depending on how much time it takes us.
