I tried to program a 7896 cordless phone for caller id on a 824 ksu. I used the procedure in the manual, but after selecting the F1 as the caller id selection, I wasn't able to access an outside line. I got a "CO not assigned" message. When I defaulted the handset, I still got the message. I moved the phone to another unused extension, and I was able to get an outside line, but not able to view caller id. Can I not use F1 for the caller id indicator button? What changed in system programming that won't allow that extension to dial out? Any ideas? Thanks in advance

you must assign a line to one of the f keys. the 7896 has its own CID in the Menu that works better.

Where is the best written explanation on how to set up the 7896 for caller id?

On 824. turn on cid in CID page of Tool. Turn log answered calls. You can make a Common or Personal CID button on the 7896 or just use the internal CID log in the 7896.
