Well, I'm posting this only because I said I'd look in to this request by one of my clients. They are trying to cut costs opening a new restaraunt, so when they ordered DirectTV they ordered the regular non-HDTV converters. Their problem is there is only one HDMI cable run to the wall mounted TV from the DirectTV converter.

So now they want me to try to make the analog RCA video run over the HDMI Cabe.

Any thoughts on this one?

well, I never tried this but their are 19 conductors in an HDMI cable you may be able to cut the ends off the cable and uses some of those conductors.

If it were me I would run new cables

I never cut open an HDMI cable so I couldn't say. My opinion is it was real stupid to install that cable without provisions being made to pull it out or install new ones.

What's wrong with exchanging the receivers for the HD ones? Look at it this way, what's cheaper, installing new cable or the difference in cost between the two types of receivers.

If you try anthonys suggestion, i would probably buy hdmi extenders and cut the ends off of those; that way in the future you have a cable that can be used. However, i would seriously run a piece of coax if possible, anyway you look at its time consumption and as hal states, it will be cheaper to replace the receiver than geri-rig some adapter.

I'd vote for video baluns and running some Cat5. If that's still too expensive for them then you need new clients.
