I have a customer that has a TDA 50 with an HP fax machine on an analogue extension port. It's been working fine for four years. The fax quit working and the customer replaced it with a new HP 640 fax machine. The unit won't ring, however when it is connected to raw dial tone ahead of the system it works fine. They have tried 3 different HP fax machines with the same symptoms. A test set connected to the extension port works fine. The TDA puts out 76 volts ringing current, and I'm guessing the new fax machines need more ringing current than that. Has anyone else run into this problem? Thanks

Call coming in direct or from V Mail? Does it get double or single ring. Tried diff slt port.? Have you tried waving a rubber chicken over it and chanting MoJo MoJo.

Interesting, thanks. I was hoping the rubber chicken MoJo deal would fix it.

I'd surely check if it's a ring cadence before investing money

I appreciate the reply John. Once again, nothing has changed except the fax machine. A test set plugged into the analogue port works fine, and with the fax machine in other ports, it produced the same symptom. The fax machine has a handset, and when an intercom call was initiated to the fax machine, even though it was not ringing, if you would pick up the handset on the fax, it would answer the call.
I seem to remember years ago, certain types of answering machines doing the same thing when connected to the old TD and KXT systems.
The only thing that wasn't tried was a different brand of fax machine other that HP. However his old fax machine that worked fine for years was a HP.
The final fix is to put the fax ahead of the system. Seems like the fax machine is the "necessary evil", you have to have one, but they get used less and less.

IC, a couple of simple things you may want to re-check.
Make sure the line cord is to the "line in" and not the phone or aux. out.
Fax mode set to fax or auto, nothing else. ----------------------- MrG

Thanks for the headsup MrG. Those were some of the first things we checked. Also unplugging the fax machine from ext202 and connecting it to raw dialtone without any change to setup and having cord in line/wall port on fax works everytime until it is put back on the system....

You may also want to make sure it's a single pair line cord. I seem to recall some kind of problem with the port when having the data pair plugged in even if it isn't used or the XDP is on. --------------------------- MrG
