Has any one had experience with this card it is a 4 port DID KX-T96182 used on a KX-T336. The lines had a problem and have been repaired by their provider. I believe that I should be supplying talk battery and these are ground start cards.
The card tests OK using the 336 utility but I get no battery on any of the incoming circuits.
Here's what I did. I disconnected the incoming line at the demarc connected a butset towards the KSU and applied a momentary ground. I receive no battery and am unable to dial into the KSU.
I have a replacement card coming so I will know if the old one is defective but I guess my question is was this the best way to trouble shoot this problem.

I'm not familar with this Pana system but DID trunks are not ground start, at least those I have installed into a PBX. Most of the problems I have encountered with DID trunks is reversals. Have you tried to connect your buttset to a trunk and dial an extension of the PBX without providing a ground?

Yes I tried to dial into it almost every way possible. I get no battery so dialing is impossible. That's what is leading me towards a defective card. Yes there is such a thing as ground start DID and I believe this card requires it. Maybe someone can confirm that. Thanks Bill for your input anything helps.

Reverse the polarity of your DID's and test - they are polarity sensitive.
And yes, that is the proper way to test. You might want to change your buttset to pulse dialing as a further test.

On analog DID trunks, the PBX and not the CO provides the voltage that
operates the circuits. In the idle state, there is 48vdc on the ring, and
ground on the tip. When the CO want to tell the PBX that it's sending it a
call, it places a low resistance loop between tip and ring in the CO. When
the PBX sees current flowing between tip and ring, it knows that the CO is
trying to send a call. If the CO is programmed to send DTMF, the trunks are
probably programmed for wink start. As soon as the PBX has equipment for
translating DTMF digits attached to the trunk, it momentarily reverses
polarity of the tip and ring voltages, usually for exactly 1/4 second (256
milliseconds,. for those of you that are picky.) This is the infamous wink
we've all heard about. This wink tells the CO it's ok to start sending DTMF
digits toward the PBX. The PBX receives the DTMF digits and translates them
to a TN and connects the call to the set.

When the set answers, the PBX provides ANSWER SUPERVISION by reversing the
polarity of the tip and ring voltages. They stay that way until the either
the caller or the called party disconnects. If the PBX party disconnects
first, the PBX lets the CO know this by normalizing the tip and ring
voltages (-48 on ring, ground on tip). This is DISCONNECT SUPERVISION from
the PBX towards the central office. When the CO sees this reversal, it opens
the loop between tip and ring. This is the signal from the CO towards the
PBX that the CO has seen the disconnect signal and is releasing the trunk.
If the CO party disconnects first, the process is reversed, the CO drops the
loop, then the PBX reverses voltages.

Thanks for all the input. I now have replacement cards and it's off to the races. The only question is does this card require ground start. I will post what I find. Thanks again.

It really known as wink start and a good case & system earth ground is required and having the
lines polarity correct is a must !The programing on the card should not have changed unless you changed it?

Replacing the card gave me battery and I was able to place a call into the KSU. I went off hook momentary grounded the ring, waited for a click then dialed. You had to ground it to get it to go and it didn't seem to matter if you grounded the tip or ring. Every thing is back up and running and I hope I never see one of these again. I like the tradition loop start DID'S much better.

Thanks for every ones help wi phoneman
