Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum. You people are a very useful resource!

OK, I am one of those geeks who just installed a KX-TD816 in my house. I have 10 extensions and digital or hybrid sets everywhere. I also connected a VoiceGate Voice Wizard mail system.

OK, my main question. The time on the phone clocks is frozen. If I change it, it will accept the new time, but it won't increment like a clock. I have tried a PBX power down and a restart (reset button when in normal mode). I've also checked the lithium battery under the EPROM cover (when PBX powered up though) and it sits just above 3 Volts. I have tried to change the time with the DOS software but got the same behavior.

The clock died on me. It was working fine last week. This PBX was installed two weeks ago, but it could have been sitting as a surplus item for a while before it fell into my hands.

A RTC oscillator issue? Looking at the KX-TD1232 schematics, it appears to be a 32.768 KHz crystal (or tuning fork). I can certainly re-work this myself, as I have extensive electronics hands-on experience.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Bert.

have you tried backing up the system and re-initializing it and re-loading?

No, but this is something I should try. I am always a bit nervous to do this, as I have spent hours configuring this box! Lots of reading and trial-error to make it work like I want. I just hope the DOS tool is reliable...

It's probably the clock crystal. Esp. the age of the unit. They do 'pass-on'. They are only for the time clock, hence the system otherwise 'keeps on keepin' on'. They are about 1/16" diameter and 1/4 long". I know dealers can get them, but as for you...? Try the repair center in... I fergit.. Atlanta, GA? Or the one in Canada, if you know where it is. Oh, yeah. Where in the ! did you get that schematic! Better PM me on that!

That,s all it is, a clock crystal.
You can pick it up at Austin Telecom.
You need to be very good at low temp soldering and de-soldering.

Yeah, that's what I feared. When I get a chance... Will try to find a substitute once I see what the package looks like. I believe I could also use a crystal from any clock or watch. I think they are all 32.768 KHz.

I will re-work and report back on this forum.

Thanks to all.

Funny, I went away for 4 days on a camping trip and when I came back home, the real time clock had resumed working... Maybe a power-down will stop it again. But for now it works!

Now you must feel silly about telling us about your
"extensive electronics hands-on experience"
when magic cured your problem !!

We can probably also say that the system thought that I needed vacation, and it rewarded me for doing so...
