I'm experiencing a very strange Message Waiting Lamp problem on a KX-TD816. It is configured the same as another TD816 I support, except on this has a TVS75 VM on it. But for now let's ignore the TVS75, since this issue appears to be in the TD816.

I cannot get the MW feature to work at all; For example, whenever I dial the 701 <ext> code, to any extension, my display says "MW Not Accepted." Confirmation tones are not heard either. However, dialing the "700" code to the same extension does produce the confirmation comfort tones.

Every once in a awhile the MW stutter dial tone will work. I have no idea when or why, and when the stutter dial tone is present, there is no way to kill it with the usual 700 <ext> code. Instead, I have to perform a phone reset using the 790 code.

The working KX-TD816 has earlier firmware version P051I50130A. The 816 with the problem is a new release, version P401A60905A.

I searched and found a couple other folks who reported this problem, but could not find a resolution to it. I've pulled out most of my hair, so hopefully someone has the magic solution for it.

Pressing the Message button results in Not Valid (because a message is not waiting).

Dialing 701, followed by a station's DSS button, results in the "MW Not Accepted" error message.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I tested using your suggested method and it gives the same "MW Not Accepted" message.

In summary: I had reset the spare KSU to factory defaults, then painstakingly used a Manager phone to manually setup it up so that it was the same as the P401A that works fine. But unfortunately I did not pay any attention to the Message Waiting feature (had no idea it was going to cause problems). It wasn't until after I installed TVS75 voice mail that I noticed MW lights did not work.

I don't have the DOS software (or an old PC to run it on). So a full reset would mean that I would have to manually enter all the KSU data again. So, let's save doing that for last; Still hoping for a less invasive miracle.

I can't even figure out how to edit my prior post, so it is no wonder I can't solve the MW problem. I meant to say:

seems that the spare ksu is roached and you have not been forthcoming on what your end result is to be? if you are trying to get one fully functional system out of the 2 and add a tvs voicemail to it?if so and the -0 does not have soldered in eproms.take the -1 chips and put them in the -0 if the problem moves you found your problem ....

You are correct in my eventual goal. The -0 KSU (with ancient PC based voice mail) is actively used in our local office. The -1 (with TVS75) came from another office that closed down. The goal is to get the -1 configured like the old one and then swap it out. That way we can retire the PC voice mail system that is a rusty/cranky beast.

However, since the -0 is actively in use, I don't have the luxury of shutting it down for several hours (or risk killing it). So, if the -1 is toast then the swap is a no go and I will have to put things on hold until I get another KSU.

I will still try a fresh system reset, but will hold out a little longer in case a simpler remedy appears here. Fingers are crossed!
