Hello all. My boss bought an old vb 43050 to use in his house. They have like 15 bedroom and instead of buying a intercom system he though he could just use this system for his phone and a intercom system by the overhead. Since I am his go to guy he wants me to install it.

I`ve run all the wires and setup a nice little data clostet in his house. I`ve punched down the 66 blocks with the co 25 pair and the ext a + B 25 pair cables. I`ve install a few PBX boxes for the company but this one doesnt seem to be working.. Does this system use more then one pair for a phone? If so how does this work? The lights are solid red on the expansion cards, the co card and the CPU card... Im guess this is bad? Also how can I program this phone system... Any help would be great thanks..

You start with the CN12 and they should be single pair. You program from the Attendant port and use the FF keys. If you have never programmed a DBS you are in for some fun.

Did he get phones with this or do you have all the parts for Single Line sets? The extra advice is that you would have been better served by getting a Partner ACS or Panasonic KXT series system that is compatible with single line sets.
But, if you got digital phones with the system, then, as Russ says, you'll just love programming a DBS.

You can google [DBS 40-72-96 install and program manual] and you should find some free ones.I would suggest you start with Initializing it so you get it back to default settings and start from there as it sounds like they don't want much but lines and intercom. The manual will tell you how to do it all.

Good luck

Greg if you don't have a drinking problem then you soon will or wish you did. The DBS was a nightmare for installers and caused many of us to leave Panasonic. Try 2nd pair.

If it was built after 1980 don't expect it to work right.

What are you guys talking about. Ask Russ, or Jonathan, I can program the DBS while sleeping. I love the DBS system. It's solid as a rock. And Panasonic offered certification courses for the DBS for installers that needed training. It's definitely not a trunker system, for sure. That was back when Panasonic cared to keep the riff-raff out, and certified installers in.

I want to thank everyone for your help. I have all the phones but I have a few more questions. The client wants a page all. I can page each extension but I can not get a page group working. Do i have to set the ext up for a group ## such as 00. If so how do I do that. I`ve looked in the manuals but nothing seem to be in there about setting up a Page group.

Thanks
Greg
