New install, I had this customer go with a CLEC Telepacific. They got a "Smartvoice" product, part PRI part data t1. This Smartvoice doesn't do faxing, so we ordered a POTS line through Tpac. The plan was when they move out of their current location, we'll port their fax to this Tpac pots line. Now I find out that tpac can't port it to a pots line but can port it to the PRI.

My idea is to port their fax number onto the PRI, then point that DID to an extension that is forwarded out to the pots line. Do you think this will be reliable?

why dont you put a slt card in the system and have the pri/ddi pointed to extension with fax on it. set up hotline/pickup dial on the extensions and it will act as pot

The problem is that the PRI they have is not good for faxing, that's why I'm thinking of forwarding the DID to a virtual ext that's forwarded to a POTS line on site.

Unless you can get the telco to do the fwd on the ddi number, if you set system fwd on ddi the fax will still be going through the pri.

But the fax being sent will make the handshake on the analog line, no?

it would be ths same as having a analogue extension with the fax on it.

to fwd a ddi on the system to a external line, the system will pick up a line and transfer it out, so the fax will be coming in on the pri and back out through the pri to the pot and if the pri is not good enough to receive faxs it will be still coming through the pri

The TELCO is cheep and is using Asterisk to send you the calls. This will not support FAX to your device. Have the teleco make you a FAX to email box and then use the new line connected to the exitsing fax to make outgoing faxes.

In = Fax to email
Out = Fax to 1FB line (not a line being VoIPed)
