If i have a phone set up to be in pick up group 1 and another phone set up to be in pickup group 2, is it possible for the one phone in pick up group 2 to pick up the phone from pick up group 1 other than pressing pickup and the extension?

An extension can be in only one pick up group. You can however program a button to be a pickup group button so you don't have to enter the extension number, simply press the button to answer the call at another group. I hope this is what you are asking?
Hope this helps. By the way what system are you referring to Analog or digital? My answer is for the digital.

It is a digital phone for the Telrad system (400switch). How do I program a button to be a pickup group button so I don't have to enter the extension number?

Program your phone to be in the same
Pick Up Group then you don't need a button.
Other wise you will have to put them into an ACD group. I hope this makes since to you.

You can also program a memory button for one of the extensions in the pickup group then all you would have to do is press pickup then press the memory button that would be the easiest way to set up your phone.(press SPD/PROG then press a memory button to be programmed, enter extension, hang up)
