Well I woke up the other morning to no phone lines working. We had 4 trunks going into the MPD card and all of them were just dead. The night before there was a loud storm (don't go looking for your Queen albums yet SS...) smile and I uasually unplug the amp cable from it when a storm rolls through but I didn't this time.... however for some reason I have a CHL card installed and just moved the cable and 801-804 over to it and the outside lines started working again. (I hear you singing SS....) (another one bites the.....)
Now here's the question.... can a storm knock out the CO trunk ports on the MPD but not break the whole card?
And whisfully thinking, is there a cheap way to fix the CO ports on the card?

Yeah right..... we might as well ALL start singing!

Being in the lightning capitol of the US (we were "of the world" until some mountian top in Peru got checked) I have felt your pain. We have for years tryed to keep trunks off the MPD but we do always have very good lightning protection installed on the lines. Many of our customers have more than 1 type on each line a high voltage and a sneak current protecter. This is not just a Telrad thing many systems out there put trunks on the main CPU and the same thing happens to them. As far as cheap fix sorry. Telrad has farmed out the repairs and of late all I get is not economical to repair. For now I would say just leave the lines on the CHL and run the MPD the way it is until it dies. This has been changed on the IPeX and MPD2 the CO card is a daughter card mounted on stand offs.

I try and stay off the MPD if I can. But I found good lighting protection works well. I haven't taken a hit on a IPEX or MPD2. Knock on wood.
