A customer gave me their out of service Telrad digital 818. It has the IPEX 1 card, a CHL card and a ULD card.

Seems to call in and out OK. The voice mail doesn't pick up though, I get a busy tone when I try to call it. Theres a flashing red light on the IPEX card underneath the VM board. (its NOT on the face of the board).

Is that red light supposed to flash? Or is it telling me there is something wrong with the VM? Could it just be I'm getting a busy at the VM because programming has fallen out?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It could be allot of things but the best test to see if the Voicemail is working is to put a monitor on it. You plug it into the video input on the IPEX card. I haven't done it in a while but I think after the Voicemail boots up it while come to a black screen with login written on it. That Voicemail card I think your talking about is the CHL/CID add on card for the IPEX or MPD2 card.

I'm not sure witch red light you’re talking about but if it's the one with the 4-lights close to each other (next to the green flashing) that’s the hard drive light. That’s a good sign usually. Keep in mind the voicemail sometimes doesn't boot up at the same time as the system but should be up within 5-minutes of the system coming up.

You should have the programming software if you want to get into it. But just to see if the voicemail is working I would Default the system. Sorry can't post on how to default system. But if you learn how dail EXT 280 and you should get into the voicemail if it's working.

One last thing, the vm should be shut down manually before power down the system through telnet or putty.

Hi Tony...thanks for the info. I'll try the video input to see whats going on with the vm. Yes, the voicemail card is the add on card.

The flashing light is not the HD light. Its another little red light on the Ipex board inside. Maybe its supposed to flash.

I just downloaded the prog software, I'll have to figure out how to get into it so I can default it.
How do you shut down the vm manually?

Thanks again for the info!

Oh...one more question...the hard drive that is located on the IPEX board....is that for the voice mail or the phone system?

thx

Hi
The hard drive on the ipex card is the voicemail.
AS tony said connect monitor to vga port on front of the card plug in keyboard also on front of card. Hit return see do u get any display if so login. In t3adm menu there are options to restart or shutdown but bear in mind that maybe just the pilot no for vm may have been changed. On this side of the pond we used 555 for vm.
Have a look for a voicemail key programmed on one of the sets push it and see what no its dialling
there is also a vm shutdown button on the front of the ipex card in between the usb and lan ports
hold it in till yellow led comes on after probably 20 seconds then let go of the button when the led starts to flash then you can power off

OK, I connected a vga to the system and I did not get a display. So, I guess that means the voice mail is deadsville?

When I push a call vm button on the phones, it dials a 5 and gets a busy.

I downloaded programming software for the phone and tried to hook up to the system. But I'm not sure which connection I should use to hook up. (RS232? Lan? USB? MAP? or GP/RLY?)

Thanks again for any help you can give.

You shouldn't get a dead VGA. Try a flat screen monitor. Something should POP up. Also when you turn on the power on the system does the Red light in the front of the card Blink. This light is uder the yellow one.

Yes, the red light blinks and then eventually shuts off. There is one solid green (pc) and then a blinking green above it. (run)

Is the red light supposed to keep blinking?

I tried about 3 different VGA screens and I really don't get anything on the display from the voice mail...I mean nada.

I would have to say that if the red light is blinking the system is working. It will stop after the vm boots up. But stop shutting it down.
