You need the later of the two links you provided. Plug the modem into the part with the image of the pc and the fax into the part with the phone.
Your modem package should have come with atleast one of the splitter/filters.

Your modem package should have come with atleast one of the splitter/filters. My dsl service came with a bunch of filters but I can't find any splitters. I'll do some more searching before I go and buy one. Oh, and JustBill, yes there is also a router involved. So, the phone jack in the Westel modem goes into the wall...and then theres no place for the fax/printer.

Ok folks, I found the splitter/filter in an unopened plastic bag that has been laying around behind my desk for 2 years I guess.
You guys are great, thanks for the help. I can now fax and be on the internet without crawling behind the desk and swapping cords.

I'm not sure if my question is related but here goes - I am consolidating all my stuff onto my laptop with a docking station. The way my old desktop was hooked up I had a printer with a fax on it, plugged into the computer. THen the phone line also connected to the computer. That way i could internally fax things and also use my printer as my fax. Now, i only have one jack/entry on my laptop. Can i use a splitter on the laptop for this function? A special kind? THe docking station only has a DSL/Ethernet cord, which obviously I'm using for Internet service. Thanks in advance.

Sharyn Looks like you new docking station doesn't have a modem. So no a splitter will not work.

yes, if you have the right splitter you can put it in the laptop to have 2 female openings for line cords to take dial tone to your phone and fax. Also check your all in one fax / printer to see if it has a line in and a line out female opening, if so maybe you don't even need the splitter. Mark
