I have had a request by a customer and I don't think I can do it any other way except by putting a button on the phones. So, I am looking for options here..
CTX 100 with ieS32 VM. There is a PIDKT hooked up to ext. 213 to ring on the plant floor. They want to be able to pick-up that call in the simpliest way possible. Apparently, the line the call comes in on is solid red so no one can just press the line button to answer the call. My thought was to put 213 in a pick-up group and add the pick-up button to the phones, but wouldn't I need to put all the extensions in the pick-up group in order for someone to pick it up?? The other thought I has was to set SCF on 213 to a phantom and then program a phantom on all the phones.
The issue is they have no free buttons and don't want to give up any. Is there a way to accomplish what I need to without using a button on their phones?
Thanks!
Amy

A couple things I would think:
Use the Multi Call group and ring all the phones in the plant, along with the overhead paging. Then, they just walk to the nearest phone and pick it up.
Change the pickup code and extension to something easy to remember. Like change the pick up code to something like #55, and the ext 213 to ext 55 then to pickup they would dial #5555. After a few times they will remember.
Or put a note next to or a label on the phone on how to pickup a ringing page.

Sounds pretty simple. As long as 213 that is hooked up to the Page Industries box is ringing, just use the call pickup option. Try dialing intercom #5#5213. Being solid red does not make sense because if a phone is set not to ring it still should flash red which you have the option to still pick it up.

The problem with pickup groups, as I understand it, is that it will pick up any phone ringing phone in that group. So if they tried to pick up the ringing page, and say exty 210 was already ringining, the the group pickup code would pickup ext 210 instead of 213. #5#5 is still the easiest to implement. I've changed the default codes before to make it easier to remember (that is way they are called flexible codes), or even added a second code that does the same thing, and left the default code intact. If they have trouble remembering, and it is important, take out a label maker and put the code right on the phones.
I would still favor Multi call group and make every phone (up to 25) ring.

How about putting the #5#5213 in speed dial bin 666?
They press [Speed dial] button then dial 666 (easy to remember) and have the call?

Easy for us but if only you knew the customer!!!!
There is no physical phone at ext. 213, I believe it is a bell or horn of some sorts that rings on the plant floor. I can't do a pick-up group for the reason newtecky said above. They don't want to give up any buttons they already have programmed so adding a button won't work.
I think the best way is (next to giving them a button) to tell them to do the #5#5213 from any phone.
We'll see though!

Can't you make system speed dial bin 999 do a #5#5213 and have the customer dial *999 instead?

Amy, the PIDKT is a Page Industries box (google Page Industries) and look at their products.)
I must have missed something. If 213 is a PIDKT, its not a phone but a black box. How do you talk to a box? Shut up you guys, don't even go there.
I goofed and missed the whole point, you don't pick up a PIDKT, it just rings or pages depending on voice first or tone first.
If it was in a group with a real digital or s/l phone and both rang, then the pickup would be with the real phone extension number, not the PIDKT.
Is it outside lines ringing to the 213 PIDKT and over the paging system so someone will pick up incoming lines?

Bunnie (is that appropriate??)..
All calls ring to the AA and then there is a single digit option to get to ext. 213. Because 213 is programmed digital extnesion, I should be able to pick it up..right?
