Hello, Have many digital sets that stay on spk. Rather than send them to be repaired, i would like to attempt to fix them. Is the part # swi2g from Mike sandman the fix for these? Also how difficult are they to re-connect. Thanks

Jeff unless you have spare time to kill you are better off sending phones out to be refurbed. The switch can be replaced but there are other issues that a good refurb co. will take care of and you'll end up with a much better phone.

1) Unless you have good desoldering and soldering equipment, as well as a fair ammount of skill using them, I would not even consider doing it yourself. You are liable to permamnently destroy the phone. 2) The DKT2000 series are notorious for having poor solder connections on the main board. A good refurb house will also take care of checking/fixing those. 3) Replacing what is basicaly a flawed component with the same (newer) flawed component will fix your problem in the short term, but it will come back. We re-engineered the hook switch circuit path and replace the small hookwitch contact with a larger boot and contact. Our hookswitch repair is warrantied for the life of the phone. If you decide to try to do this on your own, I wish you luck. If you would like it done well, give us a call.

Bad solder connections As near as we can tell without taking samples and having them assayed, the solder used in the original maunfacturing process was of poor quality and is actually corroding in some cases. Many of the connections are deteriorating much more rapidly than they should given the age of the phones.

Like Paul said bad solder joints, worn out membrane on dial pad, bad connections on rj connectors, this is just a few of the things a good refurb will check plus each model phone has its own quirks. If you plan on using this system for some time you should call Paul
