Hello,
I have a client with a CTX-100 that I have been asked to attach a fax machine to for outbound faxing.
I am not familiar with the CTX100 so I could use some guidance on the following:
1) Does this system come with any std Analog ports or what is the part # of an Analog Station card (so I can verify its existance or purchase one)
2) I have heard about feature license key requirements on this system. Do I need to worry about this if I need to add an Analog Sta card?
3) I will need to program the port for Dial 9 to get the next available CO trunk. Can I do this from a station or do I need Win Admin
4) Will I need any passwords to perform this MAC? If yes, what are the default ones - hopefully the original installer has not screwed me here.
I have a good base in other systems: Avaya, Nortel, Comdial, Panasonic, etc. but have zero Toshiba knowledge. I am a fast learner however.
TIA
Dave

Are you getting dial tone for the fax from a T-1 or PRI? Otherwise I have no idea why you are doing this.
I am not familiar with the CTX100 so I could use some guidance on the following:
1) Does this system come with any std Analog ports or what is the part # of an Analog Station card (so I can verify its existance or purchase one)
2 port ASTU1A, see if you have one.
2) I have heard about feature license key requirements on this system. Do I need to worry about this if I need to add an Analog Sta card?
They come with 32 ports. BDKU is 8 ports, BKDU/BKS is 16 ports, BWDKU is 18 ports, T-1 or Pri is 24 ports, RCOU is 4 ports, RCOU/RCOS is 8 ports, etc.
3) I will need to program the port for Dial 9 to get the next available CO trunk. Can I do this from a station or do I need Win Admin
Single lines can only be set as intercom, not as trunk grabbers. Sorry.
4) Will I need any passwords to perform this MAC? If yes, what are the default ones - hopefully the original installer has not screwed me here.
I wouldn't do this without eManger on a laptop.
Most everything is easy with DK 8/14/16/16e/40/40i/280/424/424i but I think you are over your head until you get someone to train you. The CTX is a very different animal from everything before and it really is not a system compatible with read a book, go do it. If you are going to do this, you really should get a dealer to train you. You can be very good at the old DK, but I would really not suggest you take on this complexity without training. No insult to your ability, just common sense for both you and your customer.

Thank you so much for your quick and candid response. I certainly do not want to get in over my head on such a simple MAC. But, I guess I will need to learn sometime.
If someone here can hook me up with WinAdmin or eManager I would be very greatfull. I certainly have no objection to paying someone for an assist if I find that I am in too deep.
QUESTION - Clarifications
#2 - Are there or are there not software license keys to unlock hardware? It looks like I will need to add an ASTU1A
#3 Bunnie said that single lines can not grab trunks. How are they supposed to dial out then?? Maybe you misunderstood what I said?
I expect that when a single line goes off hook, that it gets an intercom dial-tone. I would then expect that I should be able to dial a 9 (or something)that would connect me with the first available trunk. Is there something different with the CTX100 from every other system that would prevent this???

Bunny is correct I would procceed with caution, and if you need a license you will not be able to get it unless you are a dealer. You will need software license after 32 ports assuming you have an ACTU, if you have a ACTUS you only have 16 to start.
Bunny did you know that you can make an analog to be a "trunk grabber" we use it all the time with PRI installs.

Ok..........Here's the deal with a CTX100...........It does not come with any thing "standard". You install cards to get the config you want. The analog choices are either a RSTU or an ASTU1A. 8 ports versus 2 ports. The ASTU1A mounts out of sight on the right side of the base cab.under the plastic cover...you can't see it unless you take off the cabinet's right hand side cover. The RSTU occupies a slot, where the ASTU1A does not. 2) I have heard about feature license key requirements on this system. Do I need to worry about this if I need to add an Analog Sta card?
If it's a "s" processor, its only 16 ports. If it's an ACTU1A Processor, you got 32 ports to provision. You have to count the phones, and the CO lines on the system to see if there are any ports available. Just because there's an 8 port card in the slot dosen't mean all 8 ports have to be licensed. In other words, if you had 4 ports left over after your count, you could install a RSTU and assign those 4 ports, or only one to the card and get an analog port, or four. Make sense?
3) I will need to program the port for Dial 9 to get the next available CO trunk. Can I do this from a station or do I need Win Admin
You need WinAdmin to work on this system. You can program it to grab a trunk from the trunk group for instant trunk dial tone.
4) Will I need any passwords to perform this MAC? If yes, what are the default ones - hopefully the original installer has not screwed me here.
If the default passwords don't work.....you have to re-initalize the system and re-program it.

Toshiba is notorious for being the most tech-unfriendly system in the world. Beware. Get someone certified and experienced with the system before any tinkering.

I forgot to elaborate on the license thing..............If the client purchased extra port licenses, they come in 4-packs......up to 112 ports. You need WinAmin to verify how many ports the system is licensed for. If the processor is equipped with a modem, I can access it to check the program for you. You can tell if it has one by going to a phone, get intercom dial tone and press #19. If you hear a strange little "de-doo" sound, you got a modem. If you hear re-order tones, you don't.

Thanks for the info breed, can you do this single line trunk grabbing only on PRI or any line?
I had always understood that you were prevented from doing a single line grab because it would never let you make an intercom call.
An autodialer on the s/l port would work but I don't know of a straight Toshiba programming trick.
And Dave, no disrespect, but I always found the DK very easy, and that is just not the case without training on the CTX. I always appreciated it when someone told me I was in way over my head and with training you certainly could program but in terms of complexity it is like jumping from grade shool graduation night to being a college freshman. Not insurmountable but not worth trying without being trained.

Thanks to everyone for your input.
Bunnie - I definitly appreciate you letting me know that I am jumping into the deep-end on this one.
BigDTech - Thanks for the details on licensing. I understand exactly what you mean. And thanks for the tip on the location of the ASTU1A. I will have to go back on site and check this out tomorrow.
I wish I had known all of this before the client purchased the system. I have handled their computer stuff for over 12 years and did not want to endanger that relationship in a bid war on a new phone system. In retrospect, I would have never allowed them to get a CTX100 and would have insisted on a more tech-friendly system (regardless of where they purchased it)

"...you can't see it unless you take off the cabinet's right hand side cover. "
It is on the Cabinets right side, but if you are looking at it mounted on the wall, it would be on your left.
BTW, starting with the new Ver 4.10, you can program an SLT to grab a CO line. Plus they added a way to go back to Intercom. The only other way I know is to program a "9" in Ringdown.
Dialing "9" (LCR)to grab a CO is enabled by default. It can be disabled through programming.
The CTX is the first system that I've learned to program as a profession. I've been pulling cable for years and done minor programming on other various systems. That's why I called myself Newtecky
Now, after changing companies, I primarily do Toshiba CTX programing (with a little DK, Nortstar, Avaya, and Panasonic, and the occasional voice cable in the mix).
I think I adapted pretty well to the CTX. I found that after I figured out Toshiba's terminalogy, I could usually figure out how to program the system, eventually. Even before the online training, I spent to weekend programming a system from scratch using just the help files. I'm still learning something almost everyday. (That's why I come here)
I still think DK is harder, but I've spent a LOT more time with the CTX.
