good morning -- quick question:

i came in this morning and all of our IP phones in the office were trying to acquire and address. before i had a chance to touch anything they all came up fine, but apparently they'd been that way for about 30 minutes or so before i arrived.

as soon as it came up though, someone in my office tried to access their vm and the system dialed 911. [edit: do e911 calls always conference in the receptionist? apparently that happened when the IP phone dialed 911.]

anyone have any idea what the heck happened? it's running fine now, but my IP phone users are flipping out.

Not being a toshiba tech of any kind this smacks of a network issue primarilly a DHCP issue. Do you have the phones hard set on specific IP's or do you have a DHCP server allocating IPs? Word of advise, especially if a small install, always hard set the IP's on the telephones as I have seen repeatedly on numorous IP systems where the DHCP server wigs out and causes all kinds of issues.

yes, the phones are receiving DHCP from one of our internal servers.

could this cause drop-outs during conversation as well? one of the phones was experiencing severe drop-outs during a conference call this morning (the particular IP phone is on the same hub as the CIX).

i will try hard setting the IP on the internal phones and see what happens.

I would also make sure you are on switches and not hubs.

well, you were right on the money. turns out one of our XP clients decided it was going to take over provisioning DHCP from the server (WTH is up with that?) and handed out a bunch of bad addresses and had traffic routing through itself before going to the real router (probably causing extra latency and thus dropouts).

thanks!

Program 400 under the Attendant tab, sets the emergency call destination. By default it is the first port (ie: 200).
