Our phone system is based on a DK40 (ver TMA43C), four CO lines, a mix of DKT3010-SD desk phones and several DKT2004-CB cordless phones. (We do not have access to a 20 LED phone.) Currently, several extensions with desk phones are unable to access CO line 4 (pressing the button has no effect, and "Intercom # 7004" gives the message "LN 4 IS BUSY"). These extensions also do not hear the all call paging messages.

I seem to recall a situation where the cordless phones would ring (!) during an all call page, so our dealer probably turned off that feature on those ports. I've also read that the cordless phones are limited to three lines plus one button assigned as intercom. I suspect the affected desk phones are plugged into ports that were at one time set up for cordless phones.

I found a DK40i programming book online yesterday, and I've been able to fix the paging problem: program 30, led 10. But I've made zero progress on my line 4 problem. Any suggestions? (Keep in mind I'm a phone newbie; I set the clocks twice a year, and that's about it.)

Program 39 seems to be the same for the good and bad ports:

Port 002, which can only grab lines 1-3:
Button 01: ##02 (marked "Intercom")
Button 02: 001 (marked "Line 1")
Button 03: 002 (marked "Line 2")
Button 04: 003 (marked "Line 3")
Button 05: 004 (marked "Line 4")
Button 06: * (marked "Line 5")
Button 07: *11 (marked "Line 6")
Button 08: *99 (marked "Line 7")
Button 09: 498 (marked "Line 8")
Button 10: 497 (marked "Do Not Disturb")

Port 005, which can grab CO lines 1-4:
Button 01: ##05 (marked "Intercom")
Button 02: 001 (marked "Line 1")
Button 03: 002 (marked "Line 2")
Button 04: 003 (marked "Line 3")
Button 05: 004 (marked "Line 4")
Button 06: * (marked "Line 5")
Button 07: *11 (marked "Line 6")
Button 08: *99 (marked "Line 7")
Button 09: 498 (marked "Line 8")
Button 10: 497 (marked "Do Not Disturb")

I thought I was on to something with program 16. Group 00 (the dial 9 group?) has leds 01, 02, and 03 lit, which I read as CO lines 1-3. Group 01 has leds 01, 02, 03, and 04 lit, which I read as CO lines 1-4. This one was confusing, as I have no idea what the "CO Line Range" means.

Program 32 shows as "111" for both port 002 and port 005.

Program 38 shows "31" for both ports 002 and 005. (Shouldn't this be "21" for our desk phones?)

I looked at program 40: all leds on for both ports 002 and 005.

I checked the logical vs. physical port assignment with "Intercom #402", and the ports are not mapped funny.

While typing this in, I looked at program 41 and found the problem; desk phones can now access CO line 4!

Are there any other programs I should check that might be different between a desk and cordless phone? If not, I think I'll marked this as done, write it up, and get back to work.

Should I check into getting a 20 button phone for future programming?

thanks in advance!

There's no program on the DK that tells a port that it's a desk phone or a cordless phone. You should be good to go now.

If you intend to program, a 20 button set is like a DUH! You can get one taken out of service for maybe a hundred bucks, not much more for refurb.

A wise investment if you are not laptop progrmming.

Yep, the main is Programs 40 & 41

On a side note:
Program 16-00 is auto line selection when you dial "9" on a Single Line or Intercom "9" from a DKT/EKT.

Program 16-01 is auto line selection when you lift the handset of the DKT/EKT or when you press the SPKR button.

So, in your case, when you press 9, you will get CO 3 first. But on a DKT/EKT, you will get CO4 first.
