For toshiba strata dk280sub:
Can rctuc1/rctud1 can be upgraded to release 3 (rctuc3/rctud3)?
If this just a software upgrade or it requires any hardware?
Does it require any PC connected to system to upgrade?
Any hint how expensive it is?

It can be upgraded to release 2, 3, or 4.
The software chips must be upgraded, there are 4.
If you want to keep your system programming you must have a card such as a piou that has a tty port where you suck down programming into a laptop that has admin software and a dongle to let you use it.
If you don't have all that, it is just copy down all the data in each program and replace the chips and start programming.
I know I am not supposed to put prices on the board so I will tell you here that it is more than a good toaster and less than a new car. If you email me I will use a pneumatic acoustical email that will whisper it in your ear.
