Hi.

I am not too technical with this phone system stuff, but I am hoping someone can help me shed some light on why what I thought would be a simple external forward isn't working.

We have Strata DK280 phone system with ancient VoiceMaster VM system. All I want is one single extension to forward to an external number. On this phone, I setup speed dial *49 to my number. But what do you need to put in front of the number? I tried many variations.

I also setup the CF-EXT to be turned on. No other Call Forwarding services are turned on.

When I try to call a CO from an external number, then I dial the extension, the phone rings and goes to voicemail like normal - no call forwarding.

We have 8 COs - I can get to these outside lines by pressing INTERCOM + #7001 - 7008.
Let's say my local number I want to forward to which is external is 555-5555.

I tried the following combos of speed dial numbers:
#70085555555
95555555
#95555555
70085555555
448015555555 (I read this somewhere)
and of course, just straight 5555555.

Also, is there a special "pause" that may need to be put into the speed dial since getting an outside line sometimes take a moment before you can dial the number? Is it possible to program the pause into the speed dial?

Any insight is greatly appreciated. Not sure if I need to alter anything on the phone server...

Thanks.

It will only forward external if an inbound trunk call rings on ONLY that extension's PDN and nowhere else. Or on a DID call to that extension's PDN. Transferred calls or internal calls to that extension will not forward externally.

So, basically, if someone calls from outside to our main 800 number, and at our voicemail hits extention #157, for example, that is considered a transfer or internal call to that extension?

Assuming you have trunk-to-trunk transfer turned on in program 15 (i think) make sure you put the line group access in front of the number in speed dial *49 for example....

If you want the call to go over line group 1 you need to put : 801 + the telephone number
line group 2 : 802 + the number
and so on

Also, I believe it is "intercom #670" to toggle the call forward external on and off.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, it has been a while since I've done it.

And by the way if the call is transferred from voicemail , yes, it is considered a transferred call.

If the voicemail is performing a supervised transfer, then it's an internal call. If unsupervised, it's a transferred call. Either way, it will not call forward externally. However, the voicemail may be able to perform a trunk-to-trunk transfer (release 3 or higher) or a Centrex or telco-feature transfer.

Thank you, everyone, for your help. I will take a look at our ancient voicemail system to see what I can come up with. Although I have no idea what a trunk-to-trunk transfer is. wink
