Hey Guys, What do you guys do for medical Insurance? I have been on my own after working for a company for 18yrs. And need to get Insurance for my family and myself, because of diabetes I am having a hard time trying to find coverage, does anyone know of any Insurance companies that cover self employed, are there any groups that can combine for ins. coverage, for example 20 self employed people get a group discount? I ask that question because someone told me they exist? Any help would be great. Thanks Rick

There are many self employed co. You could do a goggle search and find one in your area. Beware that just like the big companies they really don't want to insure anybody with a health problem. Never have figured that out (what the hell is insurance for, seems like all they want is people that won't use it) it pisses me off that's why I don't use them. I have my own fund that I put into each month.

There is an organization called USFSB. https://www.usfsb.com (United States Federation of Small Business). It offers discounts on mendical dental and vision for the small business. I looked into it and it seemed to be an OK deal, but since I live in this GREAT state of NJ my Sole Proprietorship does not qualify for small business health benifets. I also have a child with diabetes. Her supplies cost a fortune. Thank God my wif has just recieved 100% disability from the VA. Medical coverage for all 6 of us at no cost.

I would check your local Medicaid/Welfare office since the child is considered disabiled. Also, the child does qualify for Social Security disability.

Insurance...don't get me started. ![[Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]](https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/smile.gif) It's legal gambling, you get a better return from a blackjack table. ![[Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]](https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/wink.gif) Really though...What I did was take out insurance that only covered catastrophic illness, stuff that cost a lot at one time and elected to pay my own vision, dental, broken arms..etc. It save me a bunch of money and the little things don't mount up to the premium I would have had to make. But then I don't see a doctor unless I'm real sick....Doctors will eventually kill ya. ![[Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]](https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/wink.gif)

The National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) offers a number of different insurance packages that are not quite as pricey as just going to the insurance company itself.

since we are somewhat on the subject. what do you guys use for liability insurance. I have been using The Hartford, but they keep raising my rates, and I have never even made a claim.

Z, I went through a broker for my liability insurance. The policy is through Pekin. Fortunately I never had to use them. I do call the broker from time to time to have a certificate of coverage sent out.
Paul, I have a meeting set up for Fri. afternoon with a NASE Rep. Did you go with them? Any negative feed back? E me direct if you like. Thanks, WaM.
