Greeting everyone!
I have a toshiba digital system (model 424) which I need to run about twenty lines to another building in our facility. Thinking about using our isp's t1 /t3 lines that service the two sites. Looking at Carrier Access signal converters to accomplish this. Any comments on using this approach instead of running the 750' of 50 pair cable between the buildings.
thx

Might want to think about upgrading your DK424 to a CIX. You will be able to re-use most of that cards and phones so your cost will be substantially lower that buying a new system. With a CIX, you could put in an IP card and run IP phones over at the other building. Another scenario with the CIX is that you could put a "main" system in the main building and put another smaller system in the other building and network them together. This might be someting you want to look into if for nothing else than a good old fashioned upgrade. But then again, there is nothing wrong with a having a DK424 that works for your needs.

(# of phones/lines, etc.) thanks and welcome to the board

Thx for the reply.
We provide short term (2 month - 1 year) production office facilities for television production companies and I'm sure this scenario will be repeated.
We have the 424 on stage 7 with 20 lines and voicemail and a DK96 in an adjacent building (stage 6) which is not attached about 750' spread.
I have a T3 (bonded T1's) at stage 7 and a T1 on stage 6. The isp (Speakeasy) tells me the T1's are unchannelized I also have a fiber run that connect the buildings which is used to deliver internet service from stage 7 to stage 6.
I am hoping not to have to go with running a 50 pair cable between stages for a pots signal run.
Is the fiber run of any benefit? I was informed that with be an expensive solution.
I am open to the CIX upgrade since I may want to move the 424 to our main office and replace another DK96 since we would like to add voicemail to our main office.
Question: what would the configuration look like in terms of equipment if I upgrade to CIX. 1)Will I need a signal converter to use the ISP 2)Can I use our fiber run 3) Is networking stable ? 4) any guesstimate on equipment cost?
thanks for the welcome Frank

thanks for the welcome Frank You have an almost ideal existing situation for an upgrade, with the existing phones - cards - fiber, etc. 1. Not if you use the fiber (which I would recommend). 2. The fiber run is a BIG +! 3. Networking (via Qsig) is very stable. 4. Depends on more options/variables. Your options are very open at this point.. You can do a networked CIX with another CIX or A CIX with IP phones at the other end. ----

You might also look at a remote 424 cabinet via the fiber, depending on your present software level, this is a viable option as well.
