Hello all....
I have here a Stratagy Voice Mail that suffered a motherboard failure. It won't Post. I moved the hard drive, RDSP, and Dongle to another computer that is working, but at the end of the start-up routine where it tests the database, it gives the error: Program too big to fit in memory. Now at the beginning, it tests Hi Memory area and gives "Done" the other tests go fine as well. This box has 254 MB of ram. Why is this not working? :bang:

With the error that he reported, he was working on the old DOS based voice mail systems.
They were a little picky on the motherboard that you replace with. No slot 1 processors. 486 and early Pentiums were it. I have used up to a 233Mhz chip.
Also, if the new motherboard has built in video, you need to make an adjustment to EMM386. Change include 0000-b7ff to 0002-b7ff.
The amount of ram you have in the PC is not important. It will not use over 1 meg. Whats is important is HOW it is using it.
If you are working on a Stratagy ES (windows based), its a easy move to a new PC.

Thanks so much for your response. I am running into the same problem. I also have a DOS based Stratagy 6 lite. It tried 2 Pentium III PCs and RSTRATGY.exe gives 'Program too big' error. In config.sys for EMM386 it is set to: 512 I=A000-AFFF X=D000-D0FF RAM
This value used to work on previous PC prior to crash. Not sure what value I should change to.
Is there any other solution? If I need to migrate to Windows based system what would be the better option?
I have Toshiba DK280/424 cabinets.

The windows based system is a much better idea. No matter what you do to restore the current system, its going to be 10 years old.
You will need to find a 486 or a early Pentium. I have never gotten them to run on the slot 1 boards.
If you would like to try you can run MSD on that board to see where your open memory blocks are.
You need two open blocks I=A000-AFFF can be moved to say I=A200-B1FF. But they would need to be unused.
Your next is the X=D000-D0FF. If you do not need to move this don't
Last is the page frame Move that anywhere it is open. Its a small block so its easy to move around.
You really need to know your DOS memory configurations to work in this. Just save out the original and you can always go back.

There is a .log file in the Stratagy directory. This file grows and grows. When it gets 4mb the Stratagy will not boot. delete the file then create another one using DOS editor. The new one will be 0 bytes. System should then boot.

I don't think this was his problem as the OP said that the system didn't even POST.

This issue was resolved when I replaced the motherboard. The motherbord that worked had AMD K6 500 Mhz processor.
