Hal, I agree! But we would have a whole pile of geeks out back to deal with smile
Seriously though, I wish more jobs actually allowed me to handle everything...voice and data cabling. That way it would be done right.

Oh good. We've gone from gotta have CAT6 to wireless.

You've done the right thing and it's something I've done myself. When a simple job is made into a contest by someone who has to have their way I just walk away and say to the customer "call me if you need me". I give up, you win, whatever- I don't need that crap.

The bottom line is you can extend all of their lines including their DSL on cat 3 cable without a problem. All of these experts are telling you so. Why don't you just run the standard 25-pair or 12-pair cat 3 cable from the suite to the MPOE or satellite closet like a standard install? This guy has no idea what he's talking about and you should prove it to him.

94astro, I think (And I suspect I'll get a lot of agreement here) that John is making the correct decision by walking away. Since the customer obviously has WAY more faith in the CG, if ANYTHING goes wrong with ANYTHING telephone associated, John will NEVER get any peace. We all know you're right, but sometimes "descretion is the better part of valor". (Anybody know the original source of that little piece of wisdom?) smile John C. (Not Garand)

so CG wants cat 6 but his response is to run gel filled cat5

so the only disagreement here was cat5 vs cat6 ?

can gel filled cable be run 450'in a bldg ?

I thought code was no more than 50'from POE for gel filled

Good point. It all boils down to what the listing is. (I've never use CAT5 gel filled and I'm not going to look it up for you.) If it's at least CM it's OK unless you are running it in an air handling space (which very well might be) or a riser.

Of course the question is why on earth would you want gel filled cable inside a building? Does the roof leak? This just gets more and more ridiculous.

not to keep beating up this cg but he now wants to put in a microwave system for the 450' run. because he is convinced that dsl will have to much loss. just thought you might get a laugh.
