I have the software loaded on a pc that I very rarely use anymore. When I went to open it I had an error that said invalid startup directory, please check your pif file. And I have lost my copy so I cant re load it. Any ideas of what I can do to fix it?

Thats your DOS based admin software.
Get the new VM Manager v1.8. It is windows based and I have yet to have a problem with it.
