I have a client that owns two service stations, one of them has a phone system and the other only has a couple of SLT's. The owner has a suspician that the mid-night shift employee is not responding to calls(for towing services) when they are received. He needs to here all of the conversations that take place only during the night, not during the day. I'm thinking that he will need a phone system/VMS with the call record function, but will a VMS allow call recording to be active only at specific times. I know that the Small Office from Comdial is pretty sophisticated, but I never heard of being capable of this. Sorry for the long post. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Voice mail will have to be activated by the user (employee in question)so I don't think that's your answer, If I was him I would put a tap in the line and record that way, I set a voice activated recorder for a customer who's kid was out of control so he could listen to her calls. It really worked good. this site may help https://www.surveillance-spy-cameras.com/phone-recorders.htm Take a look at the 10 hour digital, you can hide them very easily, But it will only work for one line. Here is a device that can be hidden in the office and he can dial in and listen to everything going on in the office. https://www.surveillancespycameras.com/room-monitor.htm The site has alot of "toys" Good Luck [This message has been edited by dtmf (edited January 21, 2004).]

You need to be very careful doing what is suggested here. All states are different on there Recording Calls laws. Here in Texas, one of the 2 callers must know that the call is being recorded. As in example above, neither caller would know.

The legal angle is going to be a big problem for your customer with any voice recording device on the phones or lines. Another option might be to install a video or audio recording device that only monitors what is happening on his end, with his employee. That would circumvent most, if not all, of the laws that I know of. Most courts (check your state laws) have found that employers have the right to put surveilance on their employees in the job place without prior notification.

Here is a pretty good article concerning call recording... https://www.connectionsmagazine.com/articles/page236.html and here is one outlining which states are one party/2party notify states. https://www.connectionsmagazine.com/articles/page183b.html Also the new HIPPA regulations concerning health proffesional have been enacted since that article was written. Recording calls where you may "hear" medical info will get you in trouble in a hurry. (fixed link) [This message has been edited by JOHNYREB (edited January 23, 2004).]

If he's willing to spend the money, cut the employee out of the picture and have the towing # answered by an answering service. They can keep track of all he calls, notify the driver and the owner can call in the morning to get a report. If the midnight driver can't be reached in 5 or 10 minuets the service can call the owner at home or follow what ever other instructions he wants. 1/26/04 I just received this e mail today. Maybe this can help you out as well. Dear Teleconnects, We would like to introduce ourselves. We are the producers of the USB Recorder. This device allows users to record room and phone conversation via a USB cable. No additional hardware is required and a two minute installation gets users up and recording at no time. All audio files are saved to the pc in wave format. If you have an interest to learn more about our product, please visit www.usbrecorder.com < https://www.usbrecorder.com/> or feel free to call me at 203-221-8181. I know, I had mentioned the DX80 as a solution, but he is not willing to spend that kind of money. Also, if one party is required to know that the call is being recorded then it really wouldn't work since its the employee that is being monitored.
