Then transferring the 2nd time goes to vm. It has been doing this randomly over the last couple of days with different extensions at different times. I will try the same extension and it will transfer to vm the first time. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Stratagy is the vm system.

1 or more ports may be going bad and not aswering. If you know what extension he voicemail ports are assigned, I would call each port individually a few times to see if any one port fails to answer.
As a bandaid, if 1 port doesn't answer and the rest are fine, then you could take that one port out of the VM hunt group.

I called our incoming backline numbers. Sometimes it goes thru to vm and other times it rings thru to our receptionist on the same line. The same thing has happened with our other backlines.

I thought you meant that if you dial an extension from the auto attendant it would sometimes not transfer you. Originally posted by teleclue: I called our incoming backline numbers. Is this the same problem as when you first described it?

Also, make sure that programming for the dtmf receiver matches the actual card installed. What I mean is, if the programming says rrcs-8 make sure the card is a an rrcs-8 not an rrcs-4 or something else.

When I read it I thought he meant when he transfers a call to VM the caller gets put on hold, which I think they are hearing on-hold music during a transfer to a voicemail port that doesn't answer. I would guess the same problem is causing the backline to not answer. The receptioninst may be delayed ringing incase the voicemail doesn't answer. So far I'm still holding on to the theory of a failing voicemail.

If that's the case, then I agree with you newtecky. Dial each vm port one-by-one and see which one doesn't answer.
