disclaimer I'm a technician with a varied background, and I am not some cheap business person hoping to learn and save. I've worked with the local dealer and paid for delayed service that never delivered what was requested.

The replies on this board have saved Toshiba from losing a customer and kept this business from switching to an Asterisk system. The people on this forum who work on and pay their bills with Toshiba hardware/software deserve a pat on the back for helping out here.

Sorry.. Had to get that out of the way as some people really are being silly. Like someone can just stroll in here with no skills and do anything to a system this complex? Gesh! Give yourselves SOME credit folks..

I'm at the point where I'm trying to decide if we're going to shell out for caller ID as it could be handy with our continued growth.

We have an RCOU3A with the RCOS3A adapter, but we only have 4 analog lines.

Even just getting caller ID on the primary line would be nice but we're willing to spend a bit and get it on all 4.

I have a lead on an RCIU2A card for cheap but I'm still not dead certain we'll be able to use it.

"You can plug in a duplex gizmo to the RCOU3 and run a two pair cord over to the RCIU2A, that puts the lines in parallel.

By duplex gizmo I mean the little connector you can buy at Radio Shack to plug in a phone and an answering machine to one wall jack. Each jack has two dial tones, first two on the bottom of the main card, next two on the top of the main card, next two on the bottom of the daughterboard, last two on the top of the daughterboard, 8 dial tones on the RCOU/RCOS and 8 receivers on the RCIU21/RCIS. Just make 4 short cords."
That's for 8 lines, but I'm guessing it's valid info for 4 lines with just the RCIU2A.

I'm also not well equipped with phone hardware and would love to get as much details on what we need so we can buy it all from the same person without confusion or paying for the wrong bits.

Hope I made the outstanding issue clear without confusing the situation?

Thanks!

Yes that locator confirms what I know about the lack of options I have for fast local service.

I wouldn't be here spending all this time and money if I had a fast local dealer that delivered what I'd requested. I swear I'm not insane. wink

Just so you folks understand, last week we enabled daytime voice mail. Up until now this business has been setup to not pickup during the day at all unless someone catches the caller before they give up. We'd been like that for almost 8 months, ever since we paid to have the local dealer come in and setup the night mode.

I sent the local dealer an email recently letting them know I was doing well with my own efforts and to not continue trying to find a solution for me and the reply back was "Oh sorry, were we supposed to be looking for something? We're so busy. Sorry."

I really don't think anyone needs to feel like something "wrong" is happening here. A Toshiba install is getting saved by your efforts.

Thanks.

Callerid does work in your system. I set one up for myself a couple of years ago. You have to make sure you have an extra slot or have the expansion interface box. Then you have to connect each line into the line board and into the callerid board. That is the easy stuff. It takes more time to program. For that you will need eManager. I am sure it is possible to program everything with just a phone, but I would suggest getting eManager. I do not remember all the settings off hand, but I am sure there are many people here much more familar with that part of the process.

Yep eManager is now setup and running on a PC I configured (thanks to assistance from folks on this forum).

So it looks like we're ready to take the plunge, thanks everyone. smile

Update: Caller ID is in and working. Thanks everyone that chipped in some advice!

Toshiba should be sponsoring a raffle or something to thank you guys for all the great support you give. The people on this forum were the make-or-break on keeping Toshiba phones. Kudos to you guys. smile

Oh and this was created during the process to greatly enhance the understanding of how the wiring would work for us, I was about to delete it but figured I'd toss it online first:

It took me longer to explain it than make it.. The only thing I like about Windows7, besides IPv6 support, is the improvements to MSPaint. Just like everything else in Win7, I was suddenly re-learning something I was previously intimately familiar with but once I was past that I was happy with the added functions for better lines and objects.

I'm a win-support type that's uncomfortable "deploying" my tool set on each network or workstation I'm needed on. I do not want to spend 5mins on some pre-amble about how I need to connect a USB drive to the PC to work on it and need to know how well protected the PC is etc.. I'd much rather have proficiency in using the built in tools to get things done, which often means making on-the-spot documentation/cheat sheets in MSPaint/Wordpad. It's handy too because even with the beast of a PC I have at home, Paint can perform a quick task before GIMP/Photoshop is even loaded.
