I am not even sure where to start with this one. Customer says that this company's Corporate office is recieving calls with the caller ID of their office (when they call back they get the Aut Attendant). They say it happens often and at night when no one is around, and it has happened for about 2 years.

I checked every mailbox in the voicemail. I am not even sure what to check next. I can make my way around DK programing ok but what would I look for? I can think of nothing that would cause the system to call out. They are normally in Auto Attendant day and night.

DISA, but that sounds pretty odd and would mean that someone is intentionally making these calls. An ext call forwarded externally? They sould have figured that out a long time ago when they tried to call an extension.

The only thing I can think is something programmed to call, like time clock (which usually accepts incoming as far as I've seen), or a DKT phone going haywire and calling on it's own, which I have never heard happen before.

System is, I believe, a DK 424. I don't really expect someone to figure this one out. Just thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas of what I can do to isolate. I tossed out the idea of call accounting system. Not sure if they will go for it or not.

If they aren't using notifications to cell phones, then try restricting the voicemail ports from dialing out.

Your idea of a call accounting system would be the way to go. It doesn't have to be a full blown call accounting system, just have them provide you with an old PC and connect to a serial port on the switch via hyperterminal.
How many analog ports are on the switch and how up to date is the documentation. Possibly just an abandoned analog device that called the home office on a nightly or weekly basis to download data (i.e. modem, time clock, etc).
Can you program all analog ports for outgoing restrictions for a few days to see if it stops?
Good luck and happy hunting finding the culprit!

You would need a PIOU type card to get the output to the laptop or you could also hook up a serial printer and just turn it on at night.

we have lots of old cards laying around here. I bet we have one of those.

definately a good place to start. Customer originally wanted me just to check remotely. As I have only used DK admin on one other account, I tried to log into this one, but it did not work, so figured it was not setup. I have done some toll restictions in the past, but I definately have to dust of the manuals (PDFs).

I will see what the customer wants me to do at this point using your suggestions.

Do any of the phones have their number programmed on button 6 of the phone? If they do, check which card the phone is connected to. If it is a bdku, try another card. There was a small batch of bad cards that would randomly activate button 6. I had one that would randomly take line 5 off hook. Replacing the card cured the phantom dial.

Well, good to know. I think I have heard this before, but I am sure I would not remember it when the time comes. This system had all PDKU cards.

I had to think back on which customer this was, since this post was several months old. This customer moved, and we recplaced their DK system with a new CIX-200, with all new cards. The only thing that we kept was the IVP8 voicemail.
