Hey All. This is the short version but here is it. I have a customer with a CTX100, Fractional PRI with 12 B's, about 30 phones and a 4P-IVP8-R2. Have been having assorted "strange" issues so we replaced the processor. All issues cleared except for these. 1)MOH is distorted on phone calls. This issue has been present for a long time, prior to the PRI install. BGM on local phones is clear and sounds great. 2) This customer is a music company and frequently plays sample music over the phone for people to hear. Nothing fancy, just hold the handset to the speaker and play the track. The issue is that the music is only good for 2-3 seconds then degrades to complete garble. This issue is new following the installation of the PRI.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Eric

MOH is usually distorted on cell calls. Is it every channel on the PRI, or only select channels? Have you contacted the provider?

What kind of cable are you using? Try a mono to mono cable instead of a stereo cable if you are using a stereo cable.
Sometimes using a thinner cable will cause problems so make sure you have enough copper to do the job.
Try putting your toner on with an audio cable and see if that is not loud and clear.

It is every channel on the PRI. I haven't gone to the provider yet. I wanted to make sure I had my bases covered before I went to them. I am using a mono to mono. I have not tried the toner test yet. Any ideas about the distortion of the music through the handset? That has really got me baffled.

What happens when they play the track on speakerphone?
I'm wondering if there isn't something in the codec that is looking for voice clarity and can't handle music, maybe a call to Toshie tech support would clarify my suspicions.
The phone codec is taking an analog signal and processing it into 1s and 0s but also, I am guessing, trying to make it clean, not just reproduce exactly the noise in the room.
Getting my drift? Throw something at it that it is trained to reject and what would it do? Reject it. I'm not sure this is what is happening for sure but it sounds like a good guess and tech support could say yea or nay.
