This customer was having issues with their MOH using an MP3 player and we replaced the MP3 player with the On Hold 8000. The sound is now mostly distorted with occasional clipping. Sounds like a blown speaker. I've moved the device from the CPU RCA (BCTU1) to port one and then port three of the BIOU1 but get similar results with the exception of being able to adjust the volume some. I also attached my tablet using a mono stereo to rca cable and it sounded better but still tinny with some clipping. Tried both 6000 and 8 ohm on the On Hold.
They have two copper lines and a PRI. Sound distortion seems to be on both. I tried to listen via the BGM, but wasn't able to hear anything over it for comparison.
Any ideas?

With a phone in the phone room where the MOH device is at, put the volume at zero and listen with a test set on the MOH output as you slowly increase it and see if it is still distorted.
Connect the source to the RCA jack.
I start with the volume at zero and make a call into the main number from a phone in the phone room and put it on hold. I answer the incoming call and put it on hold. I go back to the line I first dialed out on and slowly turn up the volume.
Usually clipping and distortion is from the MOH volume being too high.

We too are using an MP3 player (CIX100 system) with marginal results. Volume is minimal and raising it causes clipping. I know it is important "where" you raise the volume, and we have done it at the PAD table. Just cranking up the device volume can cause that distortion and clipping. My question is: What is everyone using for MOH device that you are thrilled with?

We use Premier MOH devices : https://www.premtech.com/ and it always sounds good. These systems designed for MOH sound better to me then other players using a headphone jack.

I'll bet that the problem isn't as prominent on the POTS lines as it is on the PRI channels.
I've got ten dollars riding on the fact that the PRI is being delivered via VOIP. The compression used when using IP dramatically affects the delivery of consistent sound, such as music. Voice is rarely affected, since it is choppy and inconsistent. Music, on the other hand, consists of sustained frequencies that can't be sampled as well.
Check with the CLEC that is providing the PRI, confirm that they are using a soft switch (IP), and then you'll probably have your answer.

Are you inputting 8 ohms to 8 ohms or 8 to 600?
Is there not a setting for 8 or 600, I'm a bit forgetting on that.
EV could be right on that but I have not seen it personally so this could be something new and it could possibly depend on compression, can get way past me what some of these devils do.
