I have a DK40i with a IVP8 voice mail and I am attempting to set up a block of voice mail boxes. Currently we have 10 - 25 and a few other misc. system boxes. When I attempt to set up box # 110 -120 and go to the box I get the message "that was an invalid entry" Just to check I was able to set up a mailbox 333, so is there some reason I can not set up boxes starting with 1XX? I am not a phone guy just the manager of the office that is best at using the phone admin software.

Thanks so much.

The phone system cannot tell if you are trying to access mailbox 11 or 110, as soon as you dial 110 it will go to mailbox 11 not 110. The system is just not that smart. You have to beware of numbering conflicts in any phone system.

That is partially true with the IVP8. The Toshiba phone system itself will not allow a confilt. You can not have ext 11 along with extensions 110 through 119 in the same system. But the IVP8 voicemail system will allow a mix of different length of mailboxes.

But the installer can limit the number based on the first digit. For example, when the system hears a 1 as part of an extension number, it may only be expecting 2 digits because the installer told the voicemail to accept only 2 digits. They may not have defined #3 so you could make 2 digit, 3 digit, longer mailboxes starting with #3.

To change this setting, it will require someone to connect to the voicemail system with software.

If you redefined the system to accept 3 digits, then when you dial 11, there will be a timer (default is about 1.5 seconds) that the system will wait for the 3rd digit, then will process the 2 digits alone.

Thanks
Newtecky - I had never logged into that section of the admin program before but I found the setting and changed it to 3 because it was set at 2. So now I can use the old extension 11 and the new extension 111 and they will both role into the same mailbox as I was hoping.
