Is it just a matter of choice or is there more thought involved between DHCP or Static IP for the addressing of the IP telephones on the Egde.

I only assign static IP addresses to servers, and some devices that need a static IP, like a printer.
Any other device on a network, phones, PCs, smartphones, etc, I think should be using DHCP. It is just a better way to manage a network. The phones don't care how they get their IP address.
The only thing that could throw a snag is VLans. I actually have not done VLans with Toshiba IP phones yet.
As Steve mentioned, there are cases where a static IP would be needed on a customer's network. I think there is about a 95%+ chance you would be using DHCP.
There could be a couple ways to associate an extension to the phone. I tried doing an auto associate extensions once. I think some extensions changed one their own later.I think in most cases I would stick to manualy entering the extension into the phone.

It's a shame the IPedge doesnt have a DHCP server installed in it as it would be handy on some installations.
